How Hyve intends to win over German SMEs

The British cloud provider Hyve, whose portfolio includes private and enterprise clouds, colocation and cyber security, has set up its German branch in the south of Berlin. According to Jake Madders, Co-founder and Director, it is newly operating in the German capital because of its cultural similarities with Brighton, where Hyve is headquartered.

Both are “thriving technology centres with a unique culture, deeply rooted in the values of freedom, self-expression and curiosity” Madders stated, explaining how such an environment naturally attracts start-ups and technology entrepreneurs as well as a wide range of professionals from all over the world.

The company has big plans ahead. The team in Germany currently consists of 4 employees, with 12 vacancies to fill. “We are currently putting together a team to handle relationships with our sales partners,” reports Madders. The Berlin team is supported by an off-site team of 15 employees based at the UK headquarters.

The operations manager, Mike Wotton, who heads up the German branch, said “We hope that Berlin will follow the example of our Brighton headquarters in offering fantastic career opportunities in a growing team.”

“It’s an office, but it’s also so much more – we use our German office as a regional hub for the whole European market,” says Madders. “We opened our Berlin office a few months ago as a central organisation for our European activities.”

The current focus is however on expanding the customer portfolio within Germany and the DACH region. “Although we have data centre locations throughout Europe, it is not our immediate intention to open another office in Europe,” says Madders. For him, Germany is the most important European hub for Hyve.

Data centres in Munich, Frankfurt and Berlin

Hyve works with data centre providers in Munich, Frankfurt and Berlin, operating Tier 3 and Tier 4 facilities. Other data centres outside Germany are also available for European customers, namely in North and South America, Europe and Asia.

“Frankfurt is the largest Internet exchange point in the world. Our data centre there is certified to the highest security standards. For our customers in Germany, we offer a comprehensive range of services, including multi-tenant and single-tenant cloud infrastructure, dedicated servers, bare-metal servers and colocation services,” says Madders.

“Our infrastructure utilises a tiered network approach with at least two ISPs to ensure exceptional reliability and optimal performance.”

Hyve has prioritised resilience and sustainability in all its facilities. The data centres are all equipped with dual power sources, battery backups, N+1 cooling systems and electrical redundancies, which ensures uninterrupted operation. The company is also committed to sustainability and is trying to minimise its ecological footprint and contribute to a greener future. To support this, Hyve also works with data centres that are powered by renewable energy.

Why choose a British provider?

The large German market is attractive to many cloud providers worldwide, whether they be from Scandinavia, France, Italy, the USA or India. But why should German users entrust their data to a British company?

Well, according to Madders, the move to Berlin was primarily a consequence of Brexit. “We wanted to reassure our customers in the UK and Europe that the seamless delivery of services will continue and ensure compliance with data sovereignty and European laws and regulations. With the new German hub, we do not expect Brexit to have any further impact on our business.”

He sees his company as superior to other providers, especially in terms of security: “Hyve Managed Hosting GmbH is a regional hub, operating independently and offering customers the option of storing their data in a specific region or location. Our network of data centres gives us this flexibility.

Security, compliance and data sovereignty are our top priorities, which means that data security is paramount. Trust, security and excellent support are also key, giving our customers the confidence to run and scale their business with the support of local experts.”

A personalised approach for SMEs

Madders is particularly focussed on SMEs in Germany and the DACH region. The company is happy to support the healthcare sector, educational institutions, e-retailers, logistics companies and financial institutions, and is especially focussing on the public sector: “Due to our extensive experience in working with public sector organisations in the UK, such as the NHS, we are also looking forward to the opportunity to support public sector projects in Germany,” says the company founder. He is well aware that this sector is currently undergoing significant change, which is further increasing the demand for experienced and qualified cloud experts.

“But basically, we can help any company with an online presence, i.e. databases, websites and applications.”

Customers can expect a “personalised approach”. This can be divided into the following categories: Cloud Consultancy, Technical Expertise and Design, Migration Support and Ongoing Management.

“Each area offers several core services to improve operational efficiency, allowing customers to focus on growing their business while we take care of their cloud environment,” says Madders.

“We have the best Trustpilot rating in the industry, which shows that our customers are extremely satisfied with our service,” the Director continues. “Our customers are our partners, we listen to them and work with them to optimise as required, be it in terms of cost, performance, scaling or support. This is complemented by 24/7/365 expert support from our cloud specialists to ensure we deliver the best solution for each organisation’s needs.”
