NHS toughen up on cyber defences

NHS cyber defences definitely need an overhaul.

The WannaCry ransomware attack earlier this year brought some parts of the NHS to its knees. The hardest hit were left without fully functioning IT systems for weeks.

With cyber chaos across the UK, the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) had to step up. The NCSC led a review of the incident and the NHS is now set to spend £20 million on a new Security Operations Centre.

Let’s hope that this investment into cyber security will increase security and educate local authorities about managing potential threats. They’ll be pulling in the white hat hackers, vulnerability testers, and will analyse malware to prepare themselves for further (inevitable) cyber threats.
