Because of this high value, health care organisations are getting more and more attractive a target for attackers. On top of that, because more and more companies are launching web-based portals and remote patient mobile tech, keeping a handle on security for health care is becoming much more difficult.
According to a survey by Imperva, they discovered that 77% of healthcare IT professionals are “very concerned” about a cybersecurity event hitting their company.
Ransomware was the top of the list of concerns, which is what scuppered the NHS in the WannaCry attack last year.
Attackers know that if an organisation doesn’t have a mitigation strategy, they’re very likely to cough up the ransom. Hence them being such a popular target. (Although, it seems that only 50% of companies actually get back their data after they’ve paid the demands).
What can you do?
Patch and update. Most of these attacks sneak in the back doors left open by older operating systems or unpatched systems.
How can Hyve help?
Because Hyve is a managed hosting company, everything about keeping your business online and safe is up to us. We’ll run patch management and upgrades for you, but we can also add in optional layers of added security as your needs change. IPS (Intrusion Detection System) and IPS (Intrustion Prevention System) give you added security at a network level. They will monitor traffic and inspect low level packets looking for suspicious data. DDoS protection will make sure if your site is attacked that legitimate traffic will still get through to your site. You can read more about our security suite here.
