The reason that you use DR is simply down to the cost of downtime for your business. Outages can cost anywhere from a few thousand to many millions in financial losses as well as lost trust and negative brand reputation from customers and users.

Prepare your business for the unexpected with Hyve’s Disaster Recovery as a Service (DRaaS). We go beyond simple backups to safeguard businesses in the event of a disaster and meet individual compliance needs.
We help businesses to continue to operate by replicating and failing over to a secondary certified and compliant DR site. Website and applications can be replicated from virtual or physical environments to Hyve’s DR data centers in multiple global locations.
With Hyve’s DRaaS, customers do not need to invest in or maintain their own off-site DR environment. We meet strict SLAs for disaster recovery with clearly defined recovery time and recovery point objectives.
When a disaster strikes, Hyve is able to move traffic to systems running in another data center until you can achieve a safe failback. There are 2 concepts to consider:
Recovery Point Objective (RPO)
The RPO is the point in the server’s timeline that you can return to after a disaster. For instance, if you only have daily backups, your max RPO should be 24 hours. With Hyve DR, because we run continuous replication, data loss should be kept to an absolute minimum.
Recovery Time Objective (RTO)
The RTO is the amount of time that it takes to recover from a situation such as a full data center disaster.
Hot DR – Real-Time Replication & Instant Failover
Hot DR is fully automated and provides a fully equipped, replicated site with the required equipment, software and applications to fully function when a disaster occurs. The Hot DR site is always live and can be checked at any point to see whether the system runs the same as in production.
If there was a disaster at the production site, the DNS would failover to the Hot DR site, making it the production site. Hyve set up continuous replication from our production site using SQL, Always On or MySQL Replication for the databases, and Robocopy for Windows server and R-Sync for Linux file servers.
Hot DR provides customers with low RPO and RTOs due to automatic failover. This type of DR provides the most reliable service for businesses as the secondary site is continuously running, but is more suited to customers with larger budgets and rigorous compliance requirements.
When failing over, customers usually assume the secondary site is now their primary site, which avoids the need to failback. Hot DR is the best enterprise-level solution if your business cannot tolerate any downtime and need robust replication and instant failover.
Warm DR – Near-Time Recovery
Hyve also offers a Warm DR solution. The DR solution can be installed on any cloud platform on-premise or in the data center to provide flexible and fast recoveries.
Warm DR enables customers to protect their business but avoid the need to maintain a secondary site at all times. This type of DR is easy to set up and copies the changes to the secondary DC like a backup. The main copy is taken and then changes to sites or applications are updated incrementally, so this type of DR solution is not in real-time.
The failover to the DR data center requires that the secondary site be booted upon demand, so VM level DR does have a higher RPO and RTO than Hot DR. Failback is also easy as it is built into the product.
Warm DR suits businesses with lower budgets due to the fact that you are not running two live sites at one time. Considerations do need to be made about how frequently changes are updated to the secondary site, as well as how it may be difficult to test because it has to be manually booted up.
Technologies used are Zerto, Veeam, Nakivo and Doubletake. We can also failover to Azure, AWS or Hyve Clouds.
