
Private/Public Key Encryption
Private/Public key encryption (sometimes referred to as PPK) requires that a public key and a private key be generated. Data encrypted with the public key can only be decrypted using the corresponding private key and vice versa.
The private key is stored in a key database file that is password-protected. Only the owner of the private key can access the private key to decrypt messages that are encrypted using the corresponding public key.
This means that only the advanced user, accessing the specific computer that the key is installed on, can attempt authentication. This provides the highest level of security possible.
SFTP Standard vs. Advanced Users
We offer 2 different types of user with our SFTP solutions; ‘standard’ and ‘advanced’. Private/Public key encryption is only available with an ‘advanced’ user. The table below shows the difference between ‘standard’ and ‘advanced’ SFTP users.
