What is Cloud Hosting?
In simple terms, Cloud Hosting is a collection of pooled computing resources in the form of servers, CPUs, disk space and memory; each made available to any hosting solution in minutes.
VMware, the industry's premier virtualisation tool, allows us to manage and assign the Cloud's resources to our clients, enabling them to dynamically scale their hosting solution in order to meet specific demands.
Think of Cloud Hosting as a traditional dedicated server but with far more resources available, offering superior performance, better reliability and increased scalability. Clients still enjoy full root access to the server and their own chosen dedicated operating system, but also take advantage of the numerous features and benefits of the Cloud.
Due to the way our platform is configured, each server has full access to the Cloud's resources and is not throttled or restricted in any way; regardless of the activities of other servers on the platform.
What type of Cloud Hosting does Hyve provide?
Not all Cloud hosting uses the same computing technology, resulting in dramatically varying levels of scalability, reliability and performance. Our HP & VMware Cloud hosting platform uses genuine, purpose-built HP Blade server technology coupled with VMware (the industry's premier virtualisation software), to control server resources.
Hardware Configuration
We utilise multiple HP Blade enclosures which contain up to 16 Blades per enclosure. HP Blades are servers that are mounted vertically which allows more units to fit into a smaller amount of data centre space, resulting in energy savings.
Our storage arrays employ fibre channel disks connected via fibre optics which are the fastest disks in the world today, and the best way to connect storage devices to Blade servers. Read/write bottlenecks encountered when using classic VPS (Virtual Private Servers) and physical dedicated servers are now a thing of the past.

Scalable

Reliable & Fully Redundant
Our Cloud Hosting platform offers levels of reliability and redundancy that are simply not possible with a physical dedicated server or standard VPS (Virtual Private Server).
- The Blade enclosure has 4x 1GbE internet uplinks for redundancy and capacity.
- Each Blade has at least 4x fibre optic links to the disk arrays via 2x independent fibre controllers (a redundant pair).
- Every Blade benefits from 4x separate power supplies per enclosure.
- Every Blade benefits from multiple enclosure fans. If one fan fails the others increase their speed to offset the loss.
- The Blade servers operate in HA mode (High Availability). Servers can instantly migrate between Blades in the event of a hardware failure making it virtually impossible to have an outage.
- Each external disk array is equipped with 2x dedicated disk controllers.
High Performance
Due to the configuration of our genuine Cloud Hosting platform, each hosting solution benefits from the latest technology.
- Minimum of 16x Fibre Channel disk groups all working in parallel serving data.
- Disks are connected via Fibre Optic cable (light speed) rather than Serial.
- Server to server communication is much faster. Blades are interconnected via Backplane technology, not Ethernet.
- State-of-the-art CPU and Memory is installed in every Blade. Blades are brand new servers; they are equipped with very fast CPUs and memory.
- Blades use LS technology (Load Sharing). This enables each Blade to utilise another Blade's CPU resources if permitted. This is purely for traffic peaks and spikes. LS is only activated if requested and will not affect other Blades because it will only utilise resources from Blades that are underutilised.

- Power supplies are consolidated into fewer physical connections. Each enclosure uses 4 connection for 16 servers (4x less than traditional physical servers)
- Blade servers and fibre channel disks are physically smaller, more energy efficient and are mounted vertically to save space, reducing our data centre footprint. This in turn, reduces power requirements and carbon output.
- Energy is saved as less power is required for running air conditioning units and cooling fans.
- Fewer switches and routers are required to connect the hardware.
